Tykes of Columbus was founded in 1999 with the goal to provide a positive daycare experience with a large focus on outdoor play. Located on just over an acre of land, and having over 7000 sq ft of outdoor play space our goal is to engage your child with both indoor and outdoor activities.
Our classrooms are bright and cheerful with large exterior windows and with interior windows separating to allow for classrooms, our aim is to have the Centre naturally lit most hours of the day, additionally this a great way to observe the children playing without disturbing the programming. We understand that placing your child in the care of others is a big step and we try to make this transition easier for both the child and Parent.
Our Supervisor, Isobel is available to answer any of your questions you may have.
Infants learn about the world around them through their senses, therefore exploration is critical to their development. Everything is new to them and even the simplest activities encourage imagination and curiosity. Infants are encouraged to explore cause and effect in order for their problem solving skills to develop. Nurturing caregivers support the child while they explore, encouraging them to experience all there is to offer, whether it’s through finger painting, playing with blocks, listening to songs or engaging in story-time. Infants need to feel socially safe in their environment. We at Tykes of Columbus provide a secure setting with toys that make no sound or lots of sound, have varying textures, and offer a range of sensory activities. Self-help skills are fostered through various ways such as supervised self-feeding, encouraging crawling, through having a pull up bar in the classroom to aide in learning to walk, and through group and individual activities. Group interaction is encouraged to promote language development and social skills. Children between the ages of 4 and 18 months have the opportunity to participate in our infant program. Our teacher to child ratio for this program is 1:3
